Daniel's Plan Bee Apiary - Telemetry

Three colonies of bees were installed 2024-04-28 at 2pm ET in Hives Zero, One, and Two, though telemetry starts about a week before that (system test).

Hive management events are not annotated on these plots. That said, a brief and abrupt change is likely the coincidence of a periodic measurement being taken with a management event (i.e., lid is off, something resting on the closed lid).

You can expect to see cycles in weight that broadly indicate foraging activity (gain) and evaporative reduction of nectar into honey (loss), more or less daily. Outside conditions (e.g., temperature < 55F or rain) may prevent foraging on any given day, favoring consumption of resources and further evaporative reduction of necatar already obtained (if rain, no gain).

Temperature & humidity are measured between the frames that are most likely to be the brood area, but the bees will do what they will do... The "brood zone" band on the graph is the ideal temperature of the brood area. You can expect to see humidity fluctuate with environmental conditions as well as nectar reduction work. You can see a rich view of the last 7 days at this link. A longer view requires membership with the data service. Talk to me if you're that interested. They do offer a long view that isn't as data-rich, but at least lets you see the broader context. That's shown below.

This is a view into current and historical data only, not a blog. There will be no ongoing commentary here. Data is uploaded automatically every hour or so. Outages or data gaps may occur for various reasons. If you want a richer view into the apiary data, contact the owner.
