Some months ago, I commissioned an artist to paint a mural for the T.H.R.O.N.E. Room ceiling. The theme was to be royalty from the animal kingdom — you know, because throne. Today, I took delivery of the mural, as rendered on 5 pieces of plywood. Five? Yeah, five. Why? That was the smallest number of separate parts necessary to get around the various obstacles and maneuvering issues of the confined space.

Shown here, as if looking up from below. The narrow top part goes over the T.H.R.O.N.E. proper, the wide part with the holes fits around the gray water manifold over the tub. The angled part is about half doorway and half partition wall (the section with the pantry opposite).
Who are all the characters? Well, we have, clockwise from center, bottom: King Cobra, Queen Bee, Monarch Butterfly, Emperor Butterfly, King Crab, Kingfisher (bird), Emperor Tamarin, Emperor Penguin, and finally Purple Queen (fish). These are of course artist’s impressions of some particular specimens, not necessarily going for Audubon Accurate, if you know what I mean.
I would encourage you to click on the image. It links to a much higher-resolution rendering that you can zoom in on and inspect. Keep in mind this was a stitch-up of 27 separate images, so there may be minor discontinuities. It may look a little cluttered at this scale, but remember, the long edge is about 8ft and the edge with the holes is about 6ft long. It’s big and bold.
Due to it being nearly winter, it’s too cold to install this now. I wouldn’t want to risk it cracking or having adhesion problems because of the low temperature. Installation can wait til the spring.
