Nearly all of the work done on the homebox has been by my own two hands. A couple of times, I was lucky enough to have a helper or two for a day to get a challenging task (raising walls, installing roof rafters). Today, it was the rarest day of all: I didn’t do any of the work. Two men and this truck spent the bulk of the day doing all the doing.
What they did was deploy a whole lot of this. Well, technically, they deployed liquids that turned into this.
And now the interior looks like this. According to the literature, this represents R21 in the walls (vs R13 for fiberglass) and R38 in the ceiling (vs R19 for fiberglass). So my 2×4 walls are slightly better-insulated than they’d be if they were framed 2×6 and filled with fiber. Take that, winter! And summer, for that matter.
You can see the wheel box frames in the foreground, now covered in foam. That’ll take care of the lack of insulating properties of the sheet metal from which they’re made.
Next up for the interior – start to wall it off! I guess I need to choose some interior materials!
