I found some photos on my digital camera’s memory card that I meant to share some time ago, but had forgotten. First, a pair of turkey vultures presumably drying out their wings…
And the second batch of phoebes hatched at the nest in the porchlet were good enough to sit still for this portrait.
This was taken very shortly before they fledged and left the nest for good, actually.
And what about bees? There’s nothing to see about bees, but I did place an order for 3 colonies of bees for the spring, one each for my existing but sadly empty hives. I did not succeed in attracting wild bees into them this year, so now on to… plan bee.
I did build those wall-chairs I was talking about in a prior post. They look like this, made from wood I harvested last year, which is whatever color it is. I didn’t care if there were streaks or tonal variations – there’s no need for these to be pure in any sense. Indeed, they are pure – purely what Nature gave me.
They meet the need perfectly – providing surprisingly comfortable seating at the table and folding up nicely out of the way when I put the bed down.
It turns out that these simple-looking chairs are actually quite demanding to fabricate. The first one was a total failure. The second and third (these) are functional, but definitely have some defects about which I am not proud, though they are certainly good enough to use. I asked the person who made the bednette cushions to rework some of that fabric into new cushion covers for these chairs. Obviously, I have a lot of fabric and foam left over… not sure what will become of that. For now, it’s bagged in the garage, but taking up space I’d rather it didn’t, so I may get impatient and discard it all. We shall see.
Will I re-make the chairs? I kinda want to try to make them better, but also they are in fact good enough to do their job, so whether it’s worth the trouble is the question. One benefit to doing it would be to learn from my experiences and improve the techniques involved, which would indeed be worthwhile, so there’s that.
