As the seasons turn here in formerly-sunny New England, outdoor projects have a tendency to go on hiatus. The HomeBox is no exception. The house itself, now fully dressed and insulated, is certainly capable of being kept warm enough to work inside, but the place where all my power tools are, the structure I affectionately call the “two car gaworkshop”, is large, un-insulated, and for all practical purposes, unheatable. I mean, yeah, I could run a heater in there, but it would take a long time to get warm, a lot of heat would be lost coming and going through the doors, and I’d use a ton of energy warming up all those big, cast iron machine tools, not to mention the loss through the thin walls. Nah, I’d much rather shift my attention to indoor projects for the winter and return to the HomeBox when the fair weather resumes in the Spring.
All this to say that this weekend is probably the last outdoor working weekend before cleaning up the shop and putting it all to bed for the winter. This blog is likely to get pretty quiet for several months soon after that, though I do intend to spend some time working on designs for the interior systems and structures, so who knows, maybe there will be stuff to chat about after all. Even so, updates are likely to be far less frequent. Anyway, if things get quiet for a long while, don’t fret. I’ll be back in the Spring.
