Siding continues! It looks really nice – I am pleased with the appearance. You can’t see all the errors, right? Right. I did have a little trouble at the upper left corner of that window getting the two courses to line up again. And the nailing fin of the window protruded out a bit, too, complicating things.
So, what’s a fellow to do? Well, for the protrusion, I sanded down the rear of the board to accommodate the extra thickness. Presto, done. For the alignment, well, at every mid-course joint there’s an opportunity for a little bit of fudge for alignment. I solved the problem by slicing that course into five parts where each interface absorbed a little bit of the error. By the next course (last shown, furthest left in this frame), the error disappeared. You’d only see it if you looked closely right by the upper left corner of the window. Who’s looking that hard at my siding, I ask you? Nobody. Good answer.
This is slow work – most of this whole project is – but it does show results promptly, which is a nice feature.
I’ll be placing an order for the roof material next week. Lead time on that is about 2 weeks, during which I’ll continue with the siding. As soon as the roof material is here, though, I’m installing that roof. In the interim, I have installed some lovely deck protection / moisture barrier to help keep the weather off the roof deck while I wait. That’s the white stuff that terminates along the top trim board.
